Common questions

Where is my data stored?

On your phone, and nowhere else. TRAK has no sign-up, no analytics and no server holding your diary. The only outbound requests are food lookups (just the search term or barcode), a meal photo if you use meal scan (read on TRAK's server and not kept), and a bug report if you send one. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

How do I back up or move my data to a new phone?

Settings › Export data writes a complete copy as a file you can save anywhere. Import it on the new phone. Do this before deleting the app — uninstalling removes everything, and that can't be undone.

A food's calories or macros look wrong.

Correct any value straight from the packet and TRAK saves your correction, showing it first next time. Australian and UK entries come from government composition databases; branded products come from Open Food Facts, which is community-maintained and occasionally has errors.

Why won't a barcode scan?

Either the product isn't in Open Food Facts yet, or camera access is off. Check Settings › TRAK Fitness › Camera. You can add the product manually and it'll be there next time.

Steps aren't syncing from Apple Health.

Open the iPhone Settings app › Health › Data Access & Devices › TRAK Fitness, and make sure Steps is on. iOS never tells an app whether read access was granted, so TRAK can't detect this itself.

My strength rank seems too high or too low.

Ranks compare your best estimated one-rep max against your bodyweight using established strength standards, and machine lifts are ranked separately from free weights. If one looks wrong, email the exercise, the weight and the reps — several standards have been corrected this way already.

The lock screen timer isn't appearing.

Live Activities need iOS 16.2 or later, and must be enabled in Settings › TRAK Fitness › Live Activities, plus Settings › Face ID & Passcode › Allow Access When Locked. The buttons on it need iOS 17.

Does TRAK work without a signal?

Yes. 76,803 Australian and New Zealand foods are built in, barcode lookup works offline, and everything you've logged is stored locally. Only meal scan and searches for products outside the built-in database need a connection.

Reporting a bug

The most useful reports include what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. Screenshots help more than descriptions. If it's a nutrition or rank problem, the exact food or exercise name lets it be reproduced immediately.

Health and safety

TRAK provides general nutrition and fitness information for healthy adults. It is not medical or dietetic advice. Speak to a qualified professional before making significant changes to your diet or training, particularly if you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or are recovering from injury.
